Why use the PL Center?
Too much professional development is designed by someone’s “need to tell” vs what you may actually want or need to learn as a teacher. By leveraging the resources in the PL Center, you’re able to learn more about the practices that help activate, support, and reveal student thinking.
What is the PL Center?
The PL center is comprised of 4 sections: Learn, Try, Implement, and Demonstrate. These sections are designed to introduce, and teach educators more about the practices that help students read for depth.
Review slides that share some of the research on these practices, and learn concrete actions you can take when working with students.
Through an activity on the platform, try practicing what you’ve learned from the slides.

Demonstrate and earn micro-credentials:
Actively Learn has partnered with Digital Promise to offer micro-credentials for teachers in the 12 key practices to activate, support, and reveal student thinking while reading. These materials are available on Actively Learn in the Professional Learning Center.
Several states and districts are providing formal PD credit for earning micro-credentials backed by Digital Promise.
Each micro-credential is vetted by Digital Promise to ensure it:
- Focuses on a single competency
- Has a key method that is backed by research
- Requires the submission of evidence
- Includes a rubric or scoring guide
Each micro-credential requires evidence such as:
- A project or lesson plan, including evaluation guides or scoring rubrics
- Student work samples
- Text, audio, or video of a classroom interaction
A certified expert from Actively Learn’s Curriculum & Instruction team will review the evidence using the rubric and scoring guide in the micro-credential and provide feedback. If the educator has successfully demonstrated their competence, they will be awarded the micro-credential in the form of a digital badge.
